Berbice, a coastal region where rural communities struggle with waterborne
illnesses, limited medical resources, and ongoing poverty.

What if we could do more than just treat illness? What if we could prevent it by building up communities from the inside out? That was the question on Dr. Michael Obiekwe’s mind in 2004 when he founded Arms of Care. His vision was simple yet profound: combine the power of sustainable healthcare clinics with the lasting impact of health education, immunization, and a deep focus on empowering people to take control of their own wellbeing. More than just a medical services organization, Arms of Care is a force for change, working to:

  • Champion Educational Empowerment: We build bridges between
students and faculty in the U.S. and developing nations, and we equip
people with essential technology and computer literacy skills.
For nearly two decades, Arms of Care has been turning Dr. Obiekwe’s vision
into a powerful movement for global health.

  • Foster Community and Economic Empowerment: We believe in local
solutions. That’s why we invest in training local leaders and providing the
tools for business development and job creation

  • Bring Primary Healthcare to All: Our medical mission trips, community
outreach programs, and telemedicine services are the arms we use to
reach those with limited access to care.

In July 2025, Arms of Care International carried out a five-day medical
mission to Guyana, focusing on the communities of Georgetown, Berbice,
and Linden. And we achieved:

113 dental patients were served, with 41 tooth extractions performed. Dental services reached 113 individuals, many of whom had been living with persistent oral pain and untreated cavities. Our volunteer dental team performed 41 extractions to alleviate suffering, while also offering hygiene education to help prevent future complications. These interventions restored comfort and confidence for patients whose quality of life had been severely affected by oral health issues

10+ Wheelchairs, crutches, and medical supplies distributed to those in need. Mobility aids, including wheelchairs and crutches, were distributed to individuals with physical disabilities or long-term injuries. These tools enabled patients to move independently, reduce their reliance on caregivers, and re-engage with their communities. Alongside mobility equipment, we also delivered essential medical supplies to strengthen local capacity for ongoing patient care.

15+ Arthritis patients received knee injections, restoring mobility and independence. Dozens of patients suffering from advanced arthritis received targeted knee injections that provided immediate pain relief and improved mobility. For many, these treatments represented more than medical care — they restored independence, dignity, and the ability to participate more fully in daily life. Stories of patients walking with greater ease after years of discomfort underscored the life-Local health workers, pharmacists, dentists and phlebotomists joined our team, ensuring continuity of care and cultural alignment with the communities served. Partnership was a cornerstone of this mission. collaboration allowed for skills transfer, knowledge sharing, and the building of stronger relationships between international volunteers and local practitioners. By working side by side, we strengthened the healthcare ecosystem to sustain impact long after the mission.

3 health education sessions including chronic disease prevention and management and dental hygiene. Our mission emphasized not only treatment but also prevention. Health education sessions were held to address common chronic conditions such as hypertension and diabetes, providing practical advice on diet, exercise, and disease management. These interactive workshops empowered participants with the knowledge to make healthier lifestyle choices, extending the mission’s impact beyond the immediate clinical setting.

120+Beyond the medical, dental, and educational care provided, this mission also touched lives spiritually. Many individuals came to the knowledge of Christ Jesus for the first time, beginning a new and lifechanging relationship with Him. Others who had drifted in their faith found renewal, as they rededicated their lives to Jesus with joy and commitment.
